NOTE: To illustrate this site, I have used pictures from movies, books and comics, besides my own art. The X-Wing: Rogue Squadron and other Star Wars comics are published by Dark Horse Comics and where I have used them on this site I have given the name of the comic and the penciler and/or inker. Most of the pictures from comics were scanned in by myself but in some cases, especially in my 'casting' sections, I got the pictures off the Net and couldn't remember where I got them from, though whenever possible I have written to the owner of the website to ask permission. Casting Tycho Celchu

"...handsome features and an aristocrat's
bearing..." |

1. My first choice for Tycho Celchu would be William R. Moses (b. 1959). I don’t know much about this actor, but I gather he’s quite well-known for his television work, including Falcon Crest (1981-1984, as Cole Gioberti) and Perry Mason (1989-1993, as lawyer Ken Malansky). I discovered his existence in Evil Has A Face (1996) in which he’s the perfect, good guy policeman – a very good low-budget show which my family saw by accident when channel-flipping and got glued to for the next two hours. The minute I saw him I knew he was Tycho. Subsequent glimpses of him in various shows confirm this impression – if I see anyone on TV whom I think looks exactly like Tycho, I check the movie guide – and it is always William R. Moses.

2. Jamie Bamber (b. 1973) is perhaps the only actor of the right age able to play Tycho today. A rising success in television and theatre, Jamie Bamber spawned an unbelievable number of fansites due to his role in Horatio Hornblower (seasons 1 and 2). Legions of female fans were charmed by the blond, blue-eyed, vulnerable and epileptic M’man Archie Kennedy (later the slightly more grown-up 4th Lt. Archie Kennedy) – a character who is only mentioned in one paragraph in the stories by CS Forester but was retained on the series as a major sidekick because Jamie Bamber made him such a strong character - until his tearjerking departure from the series at the end of Season 2.

Archie Kennedy: The Indefatigable's greatest heartbreaker
Archie Kennedy is just one role in Jamie Bamber’s long and growing resume. He is perhaps most widely known nowadays for his role as Lee “Apollo” Adama in the remake of Battlestar Galactica, a character who is very similar to Tycho (in a universe which is very similar to X-Wing).

3. Sean Bean (b. 1959) is a perfect match for Biukovic’s angry Tycho. The frames in The Phantom Affair of Tycho glaring at the AEA, Tycho’s fight with the AEA – the spitting image of Sean Bean. That’s where the resemblance stops, however; he doesn’t look much like Tycho in other moods. Still, Sean Bean would probably be able to capture Tycho in spirit despite not looking exactly like him. One can imagine his Tycho as the fiery, pre-Lusankya Tycho, though perhaps he wouldn’t be so ideal as the mellower Tycho of the books.
